Brief Mental Health Interventions in Primary Care.

This page was used during the project to provide practitioners with an alternative way of accessing forms, newsletters, and workshop material. We have maintained the page for archival purposes, and in case anyone is interested in the documentation.

The main purpose of the research was to establish whether clinically and personally relevant change can be facilitated via brief mental health interventions delivered within the primary care setting.

This was assessed through analysis of change as measured on a range of clinical and personal indicators. Our hypothesis was that in general brief mental health interventions could assist in reducing psychological distress and problem presentation, and that these would be maintained at 3 and 6-month follow-up.

We did not expect the relationship between “caseness”, presenting problems and counselling outcomes to be simple and linear. We anticipated that a number of factors such as therapist training and experience, the match between therapist and patient/presenting problem, patient’s perception of their difficulties, etc. would all mediate a main effect.

Some of the forms that we will be using are available here. Others are not available due to copyright restrictions. If a form that you need is here please print it off and use it. These scales have been copyrighted by The Psychology Centre and are free for use in connection with this project.
